Locking the file format of a merge template

Drive Connect gives template builders the option to lock a template's generated file format, which forces the template to only generate files to a specific file type.

Locking the File Format on a New Template

  1. Navigate to Drive Connect Template Builder
  2. Navigate to Create a New Template
  3. Select Copy From Existing Doc or Create New Doc/Create New Slide/Created New Sheet
  4. In the editor click on the drop down list for Generated File Format and select any of the options which will automatically save

Locking the File Format on an Existing Template

  1. Navigate to Drive Connect Template Builder
  2. Navigate to Edit a Template
  3. Select a file
  4. In the editor click on the drop down list for Generated File Format and select any of the options which will automatically save

Merging a Template With or Without a Locked Format

  1. Navigate to a Salesforce record page
  2. Navigate to a linked file on the Drive Connect component
  3. Select New
  4. Select File from Template
  5. Select a template
  6. If the template has its format locked, the Generated File Format will be greyed out and display a lock icon. The option to select a format will be disabled.

If you selected User's Choice, the file's format will not be locked and you will see the following options:

Users are able to generate files to the following formats:

Google Doc

  1. PDF Document (.pdf)
  2. Microsoft Word (.docx)

Google Slide

  1. PDF Document (.pdf)
  2. Microsoft Powerpoint (.pptx)

Google Sheet

  1. PDF Document (.pdf)
  2. Comma Separated Value (.csv)
  3. Microsoft Excel (.xlsx)

Note: When merging templates in the Automate Drive action of a Record-Triggered Flow, the Generated File Format specified in the action's configuration will override any locked format.
